Executive webcast producer

Between 1995 and 2001 I was responsible for large scale webcast productions. My personal favorites were the EuroSonic/Noorderslag festivals.

Over 150 bands performed in over twenty venues, around the city of Groningen. The festivals were traditionally broadcasted live on the radio.

We wanted to give the audience a great online experience. Our largest production involved over 55 staff members.

We built ethernet, video, camera and com networks. We deployed internet cafe’s. We had to build our own digital studio from scratch.

We designed and developed the website, with many innovative, interactive and fun features.

We produced new video items every 12 minutes and had eight concurrent, high quality web video streams, even one on television.

As the executive producer I oversaw the conceptual process, the artwork and I had three producers: for the editorial staff, for video production and for technology.

The results were astonishing. In 1999 we had over 20,000 online viewers for the live and VOD streams. That was before the broadband days.

We managed to get the audience on the website two months before the festival started. And months after the event, we still had large numbers of visitors.
